Reese Witherspoon was born on March 22, 1976, in New Orleans, Louisiana. The daughter of a physician and a nurse, Witherspoon grew up in Nashville, Tennessee, where she was a debutante and attended Harpeth Hall, a private all-girls high school. She is an Academy Award-winning actress who is known for her roles in ‘Legally Blonde,’ ‘Walk the Line,’ ‘Wild’ and the TV series ‘Big Little Lies.’
Reese Witherspoon began seriously pursuing her acting career after first enrolling at Stanford University. Her early critical successes included roles in films such as Pleasantville and Election, but it was her portrayal of Elle Woods in the box office hit Legally Blonde that marked a turning point in her career. Witherspoon went on to win an Academy Award in 2005 for her role in Walk the Line. Recent films include Water for Elephants, This Means War and Wild, for which she received another Oscar nomination. Witherspoon also enjoyed success on television as a producer and co-star of David E. Kelley’s award-winning TV series, Big Little Lies.
